Why Human-First AI Is the Only Future That Works

Key Takeaways for SMBs from My Market Movers Podcast Interview

AI is here, and most small business owners I talk to are either overwhelmed or underwhelmed. They’re either chasing “one-click magic” and buying the hype or still wondering if ChatGPT can write an email better than they can and not buying it at all.

On my recent appearance on the Market Movers podcast, I broke down what actually works for small and midsize businesses trying to grow faster without burning bridges. We talked about everything from content strategy to practical AI workflows and how to avoid wasting time on tools that don’t deliver.

Here’s what I shared with their audience and what every SMB needs to know now about Human-First AI Marketing®.

1. Don’t Automate Everything. Amplify What Already Works.

You don’t need to replace your team with AI. You need to help them do more of what they’re already great at.

When I work with clients, we interview their founders, top salespeople, or best-fit customers. These interviews become goldmines of content and insight. Then we use AI to remix those into social posts, blog articles, case studies, and short-form video clips. It starts with real human stories.

Lesson for SMBs: Your marketing should be fully human-powered and AI-assisted.

2. Build a Knowledge Base Before You Build a Content Engine

If you’re using AI without a knowledge base, it’s like hiring an intern and giving them no training. The best custom GPTs are trained on your tone of voice, top-performing blogs, sales presentations, brand messaging, and real customer conversations.

That’s how you get outputs that sound like you, not the internet.

Tip: Upload your core marketing assets to your AI tools before asking the LLM for content generation. Teach it who you are first.

3. Use the 3-Part A9^Factor Framework

I shared my simple framework on the show:

  1. Create credible context: Start with high-quality source material (a founder interview, webinar, sales call, etc.)
  2. Apply sales and marketing expertise: Use AI to identify the right assets for the right audience at each stage of the funnel.
  3. Refine through human review: Cut the fluff, remove clichés, and choose the best clips, beats, and moments.

This approach avoids “AI slop” and pitch-slaps while delivering clear, compelling marketing that drives leads.

4. Focus on the Bottom of the Funnel First

Most SMBs are chasing virality, but reach without revenue is a distraction.

When building a content strategy, I always start with the bottom of the funnel: case studies, offers, and content that earns the right to ask for the meeting. Then we build social posts, videos, and email nurture sequences that guide people toward that call to action.

Try this: Ask yourself, “What’s the one piece of content I can create this month that I would love to show a qualified lead?”

5. Build Weekly Cadence. Create Lifetime Value.

The smartest SMBs shouldn’t be focused on volume. They should build trust with a small, targeted group over time.

One of my favorite strategies is weekly interviews. Whether with customers, internal leaders, or resellers, this consistent cadence creates a long-term library of brand stories, success proof, and content that compounds in value. AI can then remix this into onboarding content, sales training, pitch decks, and more.

Remember: It’s not about going viral. It’s about staying visible with the right people.
